A video background remover separates a subject from the scene behind it. The result can be a transparent video layer or a subject on a new solid-color background. It is useful when you want to reuse a presenter, product, or character without carrying the original setting into the next edit.
AI video background removers and green-screen keying
A traditional chroma key removes a chosen color, usually green or blue. The footage needs a suitable backdrop and can require adjustments to edges and color spill.
AI tools identify the subject from the image content instead. You can start with ordinary footage, without a green screen. That does not make every shot equally easy: fine hair, motion blur, transparent objects, and a subject that blends into the background can still need cleanup.
bgchanger.video is an AI video background remover. The green screen remover uses the same AI workflow for green-screen footage; it is not a manual chroma-key editor with spill-suppression controls.
Transparent video is different from a white background
A white background is visible image data. Transparency means that the background pixels have an alpha value, allowing another layer to show through. A checkerboard in a preview represents that empty area; it should not be mistaken for the actual exported background.
If you intend to place a presenter over slides or a product over a different scene, choose an export with an alpha channel. A standard MP4 export with a solid background is suitable for sharing, but cannot provide the same transparent overlay.
Which format should you choose?
| Format | Transparent export in bgchanger.video | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| WebM VP9 | Yes | Web overlays and compatible editors |
| MOV ProRes KS | Yes | Editing with alpha support |
| MKV VP9 | Yes | Compatible video workflows |
| MP4 H.264 / H.265 | No | A finished clip with a solid background |
The receiving application must support the alpha channel in your chosen format. If a player shows a black background, put the original download above a colored layer in a compatible editor to verify transparency. Avoid converting to a format without alpha before finishing the composition.
How to remove a background online
- Open the video background remover and upload a clip with a clear subject.
- Choose a transparent or solid background, then select the output format. Leave Preserve Audio enabled if you want the original sound.
- Review the credit estimate and begin processing. Preview the result before downloading and using it in a final project.
Change a video background with text or an image
To generate a new scene, select Video BG Changer & Editor in the homepage workspace and upload a 3–15-second video. Describe the background in one sentence, for example: Change the background in @Video1 to a sunny city street. Keep the main subject.
You can also upload your own background image and write: Use the scene in @Image1 as the background of @Video1. The image guides the generated scene. The editor also supports changes to characters, outfits, objects, and visual style.
If you want to layer a transparent subject over another background video, export a transparent clip with Video BG Remover and composite the clips in a compatible editor.
Trial conditions and credit costs
Trial clips can be up to 5 seconds, subject to availability and verification. The workspace shows current sign-in and verification requirements. The video background remover uses 3 credits per second for longer clips: for example, a 10-second clip uses 30 credits. See Pricing for current plans and credit packs.
Guest video uploads can be up to 200 MB; signed-in users can upload up to 2,000 MB. Each dimension must be 4,090 pixels or less. These are upload limits, not a promise of output quality or processing time.
Common questions
Can I remove a background without losing the audio?
Yes. Preserve Audio is a separate setting. Keep it enabled to retain sound, or switch it off for a silent overlay.
Will every clip have clean edges?
No single result is guaranteed. Strong subject separation and good lighting help. Check hair, fast movement, glass, and low-contrast areas before publishing.
Does a sample video prove processing speed?
No. Samples show the workflow and its outputs. Processing time depends on the input clip and current service load. The examples on the site are not comparative benchmarks.
